Challenge: This lovely older home, while beautiful, had a few problems and one potentially fatal flaw — poor access to the street from the garage, so the owner had to practically take his life into his own hands every time he pulled his car out. While less deadly, the smaller bedrooms, limited closet space and wall space for art, not to mention the dated master bath, had life-draining effects on the owner.

Goal:  Create innovative solutions to make the aforementioned interior and exterior spaces work to fit the lifestyle — and vast art collection — of the owner.

Solution: Christo and his team designed and installed an elegant car turnaround in the front yard with pavers and stone walls that blended beautifully with the urban landscape and allowed the client to enter the street safely. Christo worked with the city of Minneapolis to acquire a variance for the work.

To accommodate more of the owner’s art work and to enhance the feeling of privacy, Christo fashioned and attached ingenious wood panels over windows that face neighbors. The genius part? They are an invisible part of the wall from the inside, but do not alter the look of the exterior and can be easily removed to re-expose the windows if desired.  New lighting was added to strategically showcase the art. 

The Christo team then combined two smaller bedrooms into a spacious master suite with a walk-in closet that breathed new life and modern space into the house. 

The master bath got a Christo face-lift, with a new steam unit installed in the shower complete with elegant glass surround, brand new plumbing, light fixtures and expert paint job.
